BIO

IMG_4366.jpeg

Mark Allen Soderstrom was born and raised in California’s Central Valley where he experimented with music, writing, and visual arts. While earning his BA from Humboldt State University he focused on photography, printmaking, and exhibition management. Soderstrom’s work turned to more sculptural and experience-oriented projects while living in Oakland and pursuing his MFA from Mills College. He has taught at College of the Redwoods, Humboldt State University, UNC-Chapel Hill, and with the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. He now works for the UNC-Chapel Hill Department of Art and Art History as a Visual Art Specialist managing the photographic darkrooms and the John C. Henry Print Studio. Creatively, Soderstrom continues his lifelong exploration of his external environment and internal queries. His studio work continues to revolve around a playful but earnest exploration of various individual, historical, and societal perspectives, employing a variety of mediums and methods.
